Leanne Sowul is an award-winning writer and music teacher. She has been published in such places as Juxtaprose, Barnstorm, Hudson Valley Magazine, and Hippocampus, and has performed essays for Read650 in collaboration with Lincoln Center's “Gratitude” show in 2020 and Carnegie Hall’s “Voices of Hope” in 2021. As an elementary band teacher, Leanne has directed more than 200 student performances and was awarded the “All-American Dream Champion” award in 2017. Leanne is committed to social justice and equity in education. She recently presented her student-centered project, “The Covid-19 Blues,” at Dutchess County BOCES’ “Designing Equitable Schools” conference. Leanne lives with her husband, two kids, and one cranky old cat in the Hudson Valley. She is currently working on a dual-timeline novel that highlights the American Eugenics movement.
